Workshop Description

The workshop will allow attendees to experience mindfulness and art practices designed for children in groups in a school setting. The workshop will begin with an introduction to mindfulness and the four foundations of mindfulness. The presenters will then briefly review of the literature on using mindfulness and art therapy with children. The presenters will then discuss an evaluation of an 8-week mindfulness-based art therapy program for children in a school setting that was developed and implemented by the presenters. The presenters will report on feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of the program. The presenters will also describe the curriculum, provide photo and video examples of program participation, and discuss how to adapt interventions to meet specific needs. The majority of the workshop will be used to guide attendees through experiencing several of the interventions from the child mindfulness and art therapy group curriculum, including meditation practices, art activities, and sharing and discussion.
