Workshop Description

This workshop will teach mental health care professionals to:

  • identify the physical, emotional and behavioral signs and symptoms that may lead to burn out, compassion fatigue, and the effects of secondary trauma on the nervous system

  • use art therapy interventions to learn positive coping skills and experience mindfulness techniques to manage daily stress levels

  • identify the difference between stress and burnout by linking the possible causes related to work overload, lifestyle choices and personality traits

  • know how to incorporate healthy lifestyle choices and self-care activities into a daily practice

  • prevent the risk of burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary trauma when significant work-related stressors occur

The Presenter

Lauryn Hunter, MA, LMFT, ATR

Lauryn Hunter MA, LMFT, ATR is an art therapist currently working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Hospital facilitating art therapy groups with at-risk youth in LAUSD elementary schools, as well as parenting workshops, mother support groups, and teacher trainings on stress management & conflict resolution. Lauryn has experience working with severe mental illness in a hospital setting, addiction, eating disorders and the foster care system. In addition to her clinical work Lauryn has been an adjunct faculty member at Alliant International University, Antioch University and Philips Graduate Institute teaching core curriculum courses for their Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) graduate/doctoral programs.
